Sun’s Signature have shared a new remix of “Golden Air,” by Mercury Prize-nominated Welsh singer Gwenno taken from the special extended edition of their self-titled EP, which was released last year via Partisan Records for Record Store Day.
The new edition will include a bonus disc of additional remixes from John Grant, LUMP (Laura Marling + Mike Lindsay), CUTS, Will Gregory and Hinako Omori. As well as being available digitally, the EP will also be available on CD for the first time.
Gwenno says: “I adored “Golden Air'”as soon as I heard it, I loved its feelings of renewal and its celebration of the power of nature. Being 8 months pregnant at the time of working on the remix, Elizabeth’s lyrics really chimed with my heightened emotions, there’s such absolute power in the beauty of what she does so well. I started from her voice and then added Damon’s parts gradually to try and find a slightly different take on that delicate balance that they had originally created in the song, I even added my daughter’s heartbeat in there that had been recorded by my midwife, it just felt like the missing element and an expression of life that I was going after with my remix. It has been a pleasure and an honour to do, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have making it.”
Sun’s Signature is vocalist Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and percussionist Damon Reece. Life and musical partners, their eponymous debut EP was Fraser’s first release of original music in 13 years. The project was met with universal critical acclaim.
In addition to this extended edition release, Partisan will be re-releasing the original EP, pressed on marbled yellow vinyl for the first time.
The idea for Sun’s Signature was born out of an invitation from ANOHNI in 2012 for Fraser and Reece to be the centerpiece of her celebrated curation of the Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall. It was there where they debuted embryonic forms of these songs, and ultimately that performance galvanized confidence in the project.
